KOANGA GARDENS

ORGANIC GARDEN CENTRE & HEIRLOOM NURSERY

KAIWAKA

Koanga Gardens was initially established by Kay Baxter and Bob Corker to provide a retail outlet for the Koanga Institute, which has been involved in the collecting, saving and distribution of many of NZ's Heritage vegetable seeds and fruit trees for the last 25 years.

When Bob and Kay moved away from Kaiwaka in 2007, the shop was bought by Romi Curl. Romi has a background in retail, having managed Organics in Devonport for two years and Huckleberry Farms in Epsom for ten years. She is passionate about organics and understands the politics around seeds, food and agriculture.

Dorothy Honey and Elaine Butterworth, who were both at Koanga Gardens while Kay was here, and learned so much from her, continue to work as the front women in the shop. Between them they offer a wealth of gardening knowledge.
