THE ORCHARD AND GARDEN
One of the things that makes our shop unique is the real garden and orchard out the front.
There is a small pear orchard dedicated to Bert Davies. Kay Baxter spent 20 years visiting Bert and these pears are all from his old orchard in Davies Road, Wellford.
One of the special things about deciduous Permaculture style orchards is that they look completely different every season of the year. In winter the spring bulbs look great amongst the bare branches and the dying back composting comfrey. In Spring the blossom on the trees is awesome, the daffodils and bluebells under the trees look great too. In summer the herbal ley under the trees is varied and colorful, (comfrey, clover, vetch, yarrow, alfalfa) and then in Autumn the fruit hanging on the trees is the best sight, together with the autumn colours the leaves turn as it gets colder.

The latest addition to our garden is a hybrid adobe dome and play area for the kids.
The dome and wall was built by Matt King from Sustainable Habitats, and Sarah,
a WWOOFer from the States who was with us for a while.

Our garden also boasts a wonderful pizza oven made during one of our pizza oven workshops with Wolf and a beautiful stone bench made by Ryan, one of our WWOOFers! The timber frame over the area is made with Catalpa speciosa, a ground durable coppicing hardwood.

The gardens used to be grown for seed saving. We now grow a variety of seasonal vegetables which we sell from the shop. We also make amazing compost heaps!
