Purchasing a mobile phone for your Child

Posted on March 2, 2019  in Kids Electronics

Buying a mobile phone for your child is a big decision as it exposes them to a new avenue of communication that you may not be able to have complete control over. It is therefore important that you make decisions on what sort of mobile they get and what access you allow them to have.

The biggest question that is asked by parents is when should you get your child a phone. This usually comes down the when your child actually needs a phone. If you have a child that is away fromĀ  you frequently and you need to contact him or her, then a mobile phone will be important for them to have. If they simply want to play games or listen to music, then other devices may be more appropriate such as tablets and music devices.

When purchasing the first phone for your child, do not buy an expensive high end phone. Children do not have the responsibility to take care of an expensive device so you will likely have accidents. When choosing the phone, choose one with limited functionality and also buy a rugged case for it.

Choosing a phone plan can also be difficult but get one which gives you a fair amount of data and has a long expiry date, avoid a contract plan. See the range of Telstra plans available and use a Telstra coupon to get better deals.

When you purchase your phone, install Googles Family Link software which allows you to view activity reports as well as limit the screen time that they have.

Some phones you may want to consider as a first phone include the Kyocera Cadence, Motorola Moto E4 and the Nokia 3310 3G.
